Kanye West recently released a new album called Graduation. To promote said album, West agreed to host the cornerstone of sketch comedy shows, Saturday Night Live. Of all the skits that he performed in the evening that he hosted, I appreciate the one included in this post more than the rest.
“Why?” -you
“Because it proves that Kanye West doesn’t take himself seriously all the time and is even willing to make fun of some of his poor behaviour in the past– specifically, his award show behaviour.” -me
I never thought I’d say this, but I wish more performers were like Kanye…
PS- Graduation is a fantastic album…

I don’t have any of Kanye’s stuff, but I’m a big admirer of his unique production style. His stutter-step approach to rapping is more catchy than off-putting and thus makes up for some of his deficiencies as a lyricist.
The only song I’ve heard off Graduation was “Can’t Tell Me Nothin’” (not sure if that was the song title, but it was the refrain) — the video of which featured both Zach Galifianakis (a funny comedian) and Bonnie “Prince” Billy (folk god). The song increased my respect for Kanye, whose real talent remains as a synthesizer in the studio.
All that said… the skit was only so-so… which is better than Saturday Night Live normally is.
But then… I’ve been watching the complete Monty Python’s Flying Circus on DVD… it’s hard to compare SNL to that show, which is 3.14 times funnier (albeit it lasts only half an hour compared to ninety minutes for SNL).
Also… correction — Lebron James hosted, Kanye was the musical guest. Lebron did a good job, I thought.

I have to say that I enjoy Kanye, however, I imagine he just did that sketch to portray a certain image of himself. He wants people to think that he doesn’t think very highly of himself, even though he’s known as one of the most egotistical guys in the business. Also, it’s been widely publicized that he was furious when 50 Cent decided to drop his album on the same day as Kanye’s comeback…He acted like it didn;t matter once he won in the selling contest.
